Intel's new GPU might just be the next big thing.

Intel just announced a new series of graphics cards called the B-series (code-named Battlemage). This new series is focused on budget PC users who want a value-for-money deal. Read on to learn everything about the new Battlemage GPUs.

Introduction

So, the B-series GPUs currently have two models the B570 and B580 with 10GB and 12GB of GDDR6 VRam respectively with a new and improved architecture.

Previously when Intel released their Alchemists series, it failed to deliver the promised performance, and this time they claim that it is on average 24% faster in 1440p and sometimes even 78% compared to previous generations. These GPUs are speculated to be priced at $219 (roughly Rs.19,000) and $249 (roughly 21,000) respectively.

There is a whole lot new with the new GPU and here is all we know about it.

Architecture

The Battlemage GPUs come with a whole new architecture called Xe2 which has been optimised to deliver more performance per dollar than the previous gen. It also includes the all-new XeSS2, which, you can say is Intel's equivalent to DLSS. It will also support ray tracing and other fancy stuff.

Upscaling Tech

With the launch of the new GPUs they also introduced the improved upscaling technology- XeSS2. The XeSS2 is also said to include three other technologies which are XeSS Super Resolution, XeSS Frame Generation, and Xe low latency. Here's what all of them do:

  • XeSS Frame Gen: Similar to Nvidia's DLSS, the XeSS2 basically uses AI and machine learning to generate frames in between existing frames to increase FPS (Frame Per Second) and provide a smoother and more fluid gaming experience. This new upscaling technology is proven to give a 3.9x performance boost. The previous- XeSS wasn't that good but since it has been around for more than two years now, it now supports more than 150 games and we hope it will continue to grow.
  • Xe Low Latency: This new technology integrates with the game engine itself to decrease input delay which is most useful for Esports games like Valorant, CS2, etc, and Esports competitions.
  • XeSS Super Resolution: It is the technology that "underpinned" the first-gen XeSS technology which now comes with improved AI Integration.

Price to Performance
The new Battlemage GPUs are very aggressively priced considering the value it gives, at least in theory. Intel claims that the new B580 GPU will give 70% performance per Xe core and 50% more performance per watt. Considering that it will be receiving regular optimization and driver updates and the fact that it has frame generation, effectively making it future-proof, it is a steal.

Target Audience
With the current information and performance, it is safe to say that it is built mostly for budget Gamers who mostly want to enjoy playing games at a reasonable graphics quality. Since we do not have much information on its raw performance there is nothing that can be concluded in terms of productive activities like 3D modeling, rendering, etc.

Competition
NVidia and AMD have been in the GPU market for way longer than Intel and have set a tough standard for Intel to shimmy itself in the market. We are going to learn what are the advantages and disadvantages Intel has over the other two GPU giants.

  • NVidia: NVidia was the first to create a GPU setting the stage for the future of graphics and also the first to introduce AI and upscaling tech like DLSS. It will be hard for Intel's XeSS2 to compete against NVidai's superior DLSS seeing as how Intel failed to deliver what was promised last time with the Arc A-series. With the new GPUs, it seems like they are directly competing with NVidia's RTX 4060 with the Ada Lovelace architecture.
  • AMD: AMD is known for its aggressive price-to-performance ratios and raw performance rather than any upscaling tech. AMD has set the stage for budget raw performance which is a tough nut to crack for Intel as they are also focusing on budget gaming. It also seems like they are trying to compete with AMD's RX 7700 XT with the RDNA 3 architecture.

Intel is kind of trying to bring the best of both NVidia and AMD with the Battlemage series which could prove hard as both have set high standards in their respective segments.

Release Date
Both the GPUs are set to release on 13th December with the Special Editions with dual fans releasing at the same time.

Pricing
As earlier discussed, the B570 variant will be cheaper coming in at $219 (Rs.19000) and the B580 will be $249 (Rs.21000). There is no info for the pricing of the special editions.

Availability
According to Intel- Acer, ASRock, GUNNIR, ONIX, MAXSUN, and Sparkle will be releasing the GPUs on the set release date.

Conclusion
With the market demand, standards, and competition at all times high, and with the failure of its previous GPU, it might prove tough for Intel to gain momentum in the GPU market, but if the reviews are good it may be able to set a new standard in the GPU market. Nevertheless, it might be a good opportunity for budget gamers looking to upgrade their old PCs or for those who are looking to build or purchase a new gaming PC.
